is a Board Certified Specialist
in State Criminal Law. He has over 40 years of professional experience in Criminal Law, half of that as a Specialist.
Joe is a lifetime resident of North Carolina. He obtained his B.A. degree at East Carolina University in 1973 and then attended Wake Forest University School of Law, earning his J.D. degree in 1977.
After graduating from Wake Forest University School of Law and passing the North Carolina Bar Exam, he became an Assistant District Attorney in North Carolina’s Fourth Prosecutorial District (Onslow, Duplin, Jones and Sampson Counties.) He was an ADA from 1977-1984, most of that time as Senior Assistant District Attorney, and was also a Special Assistant United States Attorney from 1983-1984. He prosecuted virtually every kind of criminal case tried in the Fourth District, including the largest marijuana smuggling case ever tried in Onslow County. In 1984 Joe established a private practice in Jacksonville, NC. Since then, he has focused his practice primarily on Criminal Defense, handling cases literally from speeding tickets to first degree murder.
